Dear friends,

Hi, how have you been? Today, I thank the LORD for good news, answered prayers and words of comfort.

Doc met up today with the bone marrow results. There are no cancer cells shown in 2 tests, whereas 1 test shows less than 1% cancer cells. Then again he mentioned it could be new cells growing to maturity. Should there be residual cancer cells i.e. the less than 1% shown - these cells will just die off naturally in due time. And there is mention that this 5th round of treatment will be my last round, no bone marrow transplant required. Praise the LORD! It is great news.

It has been a long and tiring journey. At times very despairing, very fearful and discouraging. But the love of God is steadfast, He is faithful and His mercies are new every morning. Pls pray that I will dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. Immersing in His life, and He in mine. It will be the greatest gift ever, the best gift I could receive this Christmas.

Thanks God for uncle Alex who has been encouraging to me through this journey. Thank God also for Xiao Yen, my close childhood friend, who has been a pillar of support to me too. May the LORD Jesus Christ bless you abundantly and keep you in His love always!

Take care.

He is my Provider

Dear friends,

Hello.. it's been good to write to you again to update on my condition. The blood count is better, but require a longer recovery period. As such, my next doc appointment is mon, 30 Nov. Doc has not decided if I would start the 5th round of chemo on that day. But he gave a positive prognosis that I do not need bone marrow transplant. This will, of course, be confirmed when I have my bone marrow tested sometime next week.

Pls continue to pray for complete recovery, with or without transplant. Pls pray also for my care-givers, especially family members who have journeyed with me all along. They may have riden a rougher patch than me during this difficult and tiresome journey. Thk God for sustaining them along the way.

Thk God for close friends who have showed care and concern. Some have lavished love gifts; from my dad's cell group in Johor Bahru and from friends in Adam Rd Presbyterian Center. Relatives also care ceaselessly and give lovingly.

God has met all our needs during this trying period. Pls pray for continual dependence on Him who provides and supply all my needs. Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling, be all glory, power and dominion. Amen.

Take care.

Going Home

Dear friends,

How have you been? Hope all is fine with you. Thks for your continual prayers in my journey so far. Indeed the prayer of faith of a righteous person is effective and has great power. To God be the glory, power and dominion.

Docs have allowed me to be discharged today. Treatment went well without infections and complications. I'm very grateful for that! But the recovery of my bone marrow is slow and is weak at the moment. Docs will need to review frequently and thereafter, plan my next treatment. It will be the 5th round.

I've been waiting upon God for His steadfast love, mercies and faithfulness. It is not easy, but it is upon waiting that I realize God is good, He is very good. At times I feel despair and on verge of giving up. These times I cry out to Him for help. Yet He will never fail me, for those who wait upon Him shall not be put to shame! He is my greatest encourager and divine comforter; the everlasting God who is love.

May the peace of our LORD Jesus Christ fill you abundantly, and take care.

Journey On in Faith

Dear friends,

Hi, hope you are doing well. I have just completed my 4th treatment this morning and resting well now.

This journey of my illness is very eventful; with the so many things happening, I thought years must have passed by. For the treatment, docs still hope to remove any residual cancer cells, holding back the possibility of bone marrow transplant unless necessary. They are quite positive about it. Pls pray for successful treatment this 4th round.

I, on the other hand, am happy to be in hospital. The leukaemia aside, ward 77 has been an eye opener for me: so many are sick around me, so many are helpless. Many people are lonely, mostly depressed and very sad deep inside. I also happened to know the nurses who cared for me better. It is quite ironic that these people who are suppose to give, support and shower everyone else with concern, are in themselves in need for care and concern. Some actually find them from patients in reverse!

God has placed me where I am for a reason. I may not fully understand all His purposes, but I trust He is working. I may be waiting and waiting for answers, but God only asks for more faith in Him. Just wait upon the LORD, in quiet trust. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Take care.

Letting Go of Expectations

Dear Friends,

Hello, gd day to you. It has been time well spent rested at home while I await my bone marrow test results. Thank you for all your prayers for me during this time.

The appointment with my principal doc has been postponed to Mon, 26 Oct 09. However, I have received the test results from Dr Grace, whom I met for my regular blood test, 3 days ago. Of all the tests, no cancer cells were detected in the bone marrow, except one test showing 3% of either cancer cells or stem cells. Docs are unable to tell which. They were considering that my bone marrow is recovering from treatment and the stem cells are growing into mature, normal cells. As such, they are planning the same chemotherapy for my next treatment to clear out any remaining cancer cells. Details will be known once I meet my principal doc on Mon.

There is disappointment with the 3% unknown cells in the test results. But my dad has been gd comfort when he encourages me to continue to trust in God. My expectation has been 0% in all. But I need to surrender all my expectations to the LORD, trusting that He will work out good in all circumstances. He will provide only the best. Everything in the future is unknown to me, but the good Shepherd who guides me in life knows all things, past present and future. I know what is good for me, but God knows what is best. And His perspective is always broader and wider than what I can fully understand, for His Kingdom purpose. It is not easy lesson to surrender all and follow Jesus Christ, but with His empowerment, I am able. I am sure you can too.

Pls pray for my next treatment which will start some time next week after doc's appointment. Pls pray also for strengthened faith and absolute trust in our LORD Jesus Christ, now and in the future, in all circumstances. To Him be the glory forever and ever more. Amen.

Take care.

Test, and more Tests

Dear Friends,

Hi, I am glad to hear from some of you in person! Grateful to Kevin and Joshua for visiting me at home. We had a good time of sharing, fellowship and praying for each other during my week rest. I hope to meet up with more of you when the time is right but as for now, my treatment have to continue.

The doctor has scheduled my bone marrow test to be carried out on Tues, 13 Oct 09. This time, more detailed tests need carry out, so I will be home till 23 Oct 09, when the results are out.

It is anxious moments as I await the test procedure and more so, the impending results. Pls pray for favourable results. All is in God's hands and trust that He knows best and will provide the best for all who trust in Him. When I pray for bread, He will not give me stone, yet He gives me the bread of life through our LORD Jesus Christ. This is a picture of God who loves us.

Thank you for your continual support, concern and prayers for me. May God bless you richly, and now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling and present you faultless before the presence of His glory, with exceeding joy. To the only wise God our saviour, be glory and majesty. Dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

take care.

Here for a Purpose

Dear friends,

Hello, hope you are doing well. As I write, I would like to thank you for your support and gifts for my continual treatment here in SGH. It is very helpful indeed.

The 3rd treatment is on-going; chemotherapy completed and I'm awaiting my blood counts to recover. Please continue to pray that this round of treatment will be successful and for the up-coming bone marrow test to achieve 0% cancer cells. Doctors have yet to schedule the test but it will be soon.

Upon reflection, my 3 months stay here in SGH is no coincidence at all. It is exactly where the LORD has placed me in for a purpose, for His glory and for my good. It is here that I meet many dying people who desperately need reconciliation with God, through our LORD Jesus Christ. Dying not of physical death but of spiritual death. Doctors, nurses, support staffs and patients -some seeking, some considering, some lost and perplexed but all have a need of a saviour. I pray that they will soon realize Jesus as saviour and to personally receive Him with open hearts. Recently, I met a house-keeper from China who is keen to learn English. She would approach me to translate some words, and when she asked me about the Daily Bread material that I was reading, I had the oppotunity to share the Gospel to her. I also got her a Chinese Bible in hope that she can find out more about the truth in God's timing, and respond positively to His Word. The harvest field is plentiful but the workers are few. Let's pray for workers to be sent for the harvest. And when He sends us, let us be joyful to join Him in His work. To God be the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Take care.

Consolidation Course No. 3

Dear friends,

How are you? Hope this message will find you well and peace to you. Today (10 Sep 09), doctors came with my bone marrow test results and it reads 1.5% cancer cells. The doctors are quite disappointed with the result cos they expected 0% cancer cells in my marrow after the 2nd treatment. However, after much discussion, they agreed to try the same drug for my 3rd chemo treatment to achieve the 0% result. The treatment will start today (10 Sep 09).

Please pray for God's mercy upon me. Pray that the 3rd treatment will be a success to wipe out the remaining cancer cells. Only LORD is in know what is ahead, and what seems disappointments are definitely His appointments to those who love Him, called according to His purpose. May our faith in Christ Jesus never waver in the midst stormy seas, and turbulent weathers; but let us affirm that all will be well, LORD; because You are with us. Thank you.

Peace of our LORD Jesus Christ be with you.

Take care.

Through this journey, I'm assured that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and may the peace of Jesus Christ flood us in whatever circumstaces we arein.

Update on Fri July 10th - God is indeed good !

Praise God !

The latest update from Kenneth is that he's very grateful to God for 2 very positive test results showing that he's responded spectacularly well from the first round of chemo.

He's had a blood count showing no cancer cells in his blood, even as he still has a decreased blood cell count which is expected. And amazingly, his bone marrow test results just came back and they also show no cancer cells there!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

In Christ,

Kevin

Update on Sat 4th July 2009 from Oleania and David

From: Oleania Chen

Dear all,

Thank you for your wonderful gifts and messages to Kenneth. It has indeed spirited him ..

Kenneth has moved to Ward 77 Room 6 instead. He has some rashes on his body and came down with a fever, likely a reaction to the chemotheraphy. Pray that all will be well and no infection will complicate his recovery.

Thank you all for the prayers for him and his family in this trying times.

We will stand strong together in Him.

Oleania

From David - on Tues June 30th

Dear all,

My brother Kenneth is still undergoing chemotheraphy, until this Friday. He'll remain in hospital for another week for observation and to minimize infections. Blood samples will then be collected and analysed to determine his body's reaction to the first round of chemotheraphy.

So far, he still has decent appetite, but feeling a little nauseus. He's encouraged with the prayers and concern shown by members of the church, Thank you for all your prayers and do continue to pray for strength and peace.

Regards,

David

Update on Fri July 3rd

Hi friends,

Praise God that Kenneth has completed his first course of Chemo!

He's now been put under strict hygiene measures so do pray that Kenneth will be in God's loving care and that he will avoid having any infections which could happen while your body is in a weakened immune state after the chemo.

In Christ,

Kev

Thank God for his blessings today - Wed 1st July 2009

Thank God for his care of Kenneth!
He is feeling better today with much less side effects.

Plus the good news from the Haematology specialist that Kenneth does not need a bone marrow transplant and that he requires 5 cycles of chemo not the 6 cycles that were the original plan.

Do keep praying for Kenneth's strength at this time and for God's great healing for our brother.

Kevin

Update on Monday June 29th 2009

Dear friends,

Kenneth has been on Chemo for 3 days now and has been feeling weak from it along with stomach pains and nausea.

Am thankful that he could sleep at night in spite of this.

Do keep praying for strength to continue this Chemo which has 4 more days for this first cycle. He expects to be in hospital for a month after this cycle before being allowed 2 weeks home leave.

May God give strength and comfort to Kenneth in this time of great need.

In Christ,

Kevin

Update on Thurs June 25th 2009

Dear Friends,

I'm happy to report that the tests results show that Kenneth has a mixed M1 / M2 type AML ( Leukemia ) which with Chemo has an above average chance of successful cure.

Praise God for that!

As for his condition, I thank God that Kenneth is looking stronger today and his face is less pale. He has also been encouraged that tests have shown that he has healthy lungs, kidneys and liver. And so is fit to undergo the chemo.

Kenneth will then be starting chemo on Friday June 26th. So do pray for his strength and to be constantly sustained by the Lord during this first Chemo treatment that lasts for a full 7 days. Do pray as well for him to have a peaceful heart during this time of severe illness.

In Christ,

Kevin Kwok

First update by Oleania June 23rd 2009

From Oleania ( Kenneth's Sis in Law)

Kenneth is diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia and is currently warded in Singapore General Hospital.

Today he should be taking some blood/bone marrow samples.

After the lab results (probably within this week) he will be advised on the chemo program to go through.

Do continue to pray for Kenneth as he is disheartened with his outlook of his condition.

Pray that we continue to look to the Lord for strength and faith, our Lord our Healer.

It is indeed a taunting time for the family members so do pray for strength (especially for my parents-in-law) to keep themselves healthy and mentally strong to walk through this period together with Kenneth.

Understand that some of Kenneth's friends have expressed interest in visiting him in the hospital.

However due to the visitor restrictions in SGH due to the recent H1N1, only a few nominated are allowed into the ward, and only a couple can visit him at any one time.

Would really appreciate the support from his DG as I believe he really hopes for church members (in JB and ARPC) to pray for his recovery... With the visit restrictions so much fewer could visit him... would really want to encourage him that his friends and church members are praying for him even if they couldn't visit him.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can be contacted through email: oleania@gmail.com.
